Is your resume committing these needless blunders?

Are you losing job opportunities because your resume has one or more of these five common mistakes? Don’t let your resume get knocked out of the running because of:
  • No accomplishments. If you come across as a doer, not an achiever, you’ve committed the #1 resume mistake. Hiring managers want to know what you can do for them, and they want to know it fast.
  • No personal brand. If you don’t know why they should hire you, neither will they. Make sure you stand out from your competitors by identifying your Unique Value Proposition.
  • Too much information. If you can’t get your value across in two pages, don’t expect a call. If much of your resume is bullets, don’t expect even a glance.
  • Errors. A huge blunder is a grammatical or spelling blunder. Spell checking will not catch all of them. Proof read very carefully.
  • Dullness. If you’re using the world’s most common font, or your format lacks design, or your language is stodgy, your resume is not representing you as energetic, forwarding-thinking, or worthy of an interview.
  • Remember, strategy, simplicity, and clarity will make the difference in whether your resume lands in the “no” pile or the “call” pile. Your resume’s goal is to secure an interview, and it’s competing with dozens, or hundreds, or thousands of other resumes. Make them care, and do it fast.
